STLE Webinar: Metalworking Fluid Emulsifiers 101

Here's another great opportunity to enhance your metalworking fluid education.  The STLE Emulsifier series will be presented by Jennifer Ineman and Joe Schultz. This first presentation will cover the basics of what an emulsion is, what chemistries and which fluid types are typically used in metalworking applications, what the hydrophilic-lipophilic balance is and why it is important to emulsifier selection.

WARNING - You won't be asked to solve any equations, but chemistry IS the subject matter.  If you're not a chemist (and I am not)  plan on having a caffeinated drink with that sandwich on the 5th.

ABSTRACT: As many experienced metalworking fluid formulators can attest, designing an emulsifier system can be more of an art than a science.  Formulators must find a balance between performance requirements, cost and availability of raw materials.  A significant amount of market knowledge and expertise lies with scientists that have decades of experience in formulating metalworking fluids.  As machining processes evolve and the workforce transitions with new, inexperienced workers coming into the field, we want to provide a two-part training series that covers the basics of emulsification, applications for water-based metalworking fluids and offer some understanding of how to bring more science into creating water-based metalworking fluids.
