The December issue of TLT is now available online.  Is seems there are too few articles on metalworking fluids these days, but perhaps that reflects the speed of technology in this industry.  The article relates to the recent 4th MWF Symposium that was held in Spain.  You may have listened the the Podcast from the STLE on this that we reported on last month.  UEIL hosted the 4th symposium in conjunction with ILMA and STLE.  The primary topics were health and safety, regulation, and the global supply.  There was also a technology section that we would like to have heard more about, but only a couple of items are discussed here.  I found mention of sensors for detecting the presence of bacteria interesting.  The article touts this as a break-through of sorts, but we have long wondered why it hasn't arrived yet.  That's how humans have detected it forever and advances in this field of technology have been around for a several years, including for accurately identifying wines.  The article also discusses the globalization of the supply network, and the rather bleak outlook for growth absent innovation.
