This is not an announcement of the next STLE Convention in Las Vegas.  It is NOT in Las Vegas.  It is in Detroit, where the only ride you will test drive is a Ford.  This is about tramp oil.  The STLE January Issue of the Metalworking Fluid Newsletter includes six articles related to metalworking fluids, including the 6C Metalworking Fluid Management article that first appeared in Metalworking Fluid Magazine in July of last year.  One of the articles, "The Trouble With Tramp Oil" provides an excellent and detailed evaluation of the problems with tramp oil.  You may be familiar with the negative effects, such as increased bacterial growth, dermatitis, and shortened system life.  This article, by John Burke, goes further to explain things like why your refractive index reading will be impaired, causing the tramp oil problem to go underestimated in terms of its presence and total damage to your metalworking fluid system.  Mr. Burke also explains the difference between the behavior and effective treatments of tramp oil in oil based systems vs. water soluble systems.  Short, straight, important and easy to understand.  5 stars - Read it!
